Beaumaris is a captivating seaside town, with its mix of medieval, Georgian, Victorian and Edwardian architecture. Its name is based on the Norman ‘beau marais’, meaning ‘fair marsh’, a description of the site chosen by Edward 1 for the last of his ‘Iron ring’ of castles, constructed in his bid to control the Welsh.
Caernarfon Gwynedd’s county town, home to Wales’s most famous castle, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Mighty Caernarfon Castle commands the lion’s share of attention, but the town’s narrow streets and stylishly redeveloped waterfront also merit a visit. Other attractions include Welsh Highland Railway (which runs for 25 miles to Porthmadog) The most picturesque and historic town in North Wales with its famous castle; entrance to the the castle is an additional cost.

Portmeirion was created by the architect Clough Williams-Ellis from 1925 to 1976. He wanted to show how a naturally beautiful site could be developed without spoiling it. This pretty village was designed and built in the style of an Italian village and is now owned by a charitable trust, all the building have a listed status and it is well worth a visit. It was once the setting for the TV series The Prisoner.
