Seahouse: Saunter along the bustling harbour of this colourful fishing village and browse an Aladdin’s Cave of shops in this popular seaside holiday resort. Board a Billy Shiel or Serenity boat trip bound for the Farne Islands, one of the UK’s top wildlife experiences. During the breeding season around 150,000 seabirds vie for space here. Get dive bombed by terns on Inner Farne and encounter curious grey seals that make up one of the country’s largest colonies. Sup a pint of Farne Island ale in a friendly inn’s beer garden overlooking the islands themselves and take in the sights of Bamburgh Castle and Holy Island.

Holy Island: The Holy Island of Lindisfarne the beautiful, historic island lies in a very remote part of Northumberland. The Island is tidal, in that it is separated from the mainland by the North Sea twice daily. Lindisfarne – also known as Holy Island – is one of the most important centres of early English Christianity. Irish monks settled here in AD 635 and the monastery became the centre of a major saint’s cult celebrating its bishop, Cuthbert.

Sunderland is a port city in Northern England. It is the City of Sunderland’s administrative centre, within the Metropolitan county of Tyne and Wear, the Historic County of Durham, and the North East Combined Authority area. Locals from the city are sometimes known as Mackems. The term originated as recently as the early 1980s, its use and acceptance by residents, particularly among the older generations, is not universal. At one time, ships built on the Wear were called “Jamies”, in contrast with those from the Tyne, which were known as “Geordies”, although in the case of “Jamie” it is not known whether this was ever extended to people.
